How to... Slouch

Fashion is winding down a notch - an overdose of bodycon will do that to a girl - with curve-skimming as opposed curve-clinging clothes being the order of the moment.

But before you pale at visions of tent-like sacks and kiss goodbye to that hard-earned waist, the new relaxed look is a feat of slouchy tailoring and artful understatement that can actually prove rather slimming.

Pint-sized popstrel, Rachel Stevens, is a case in point, her legs rather more shapely than the rest of her tiny body, but in those deftly cut carrot trousers (sharpened with leg-slimming heels) you'd never suspect she was anything other than a skinny Minnie all over.

Style tips for Slouch:

For every slouchy piece you wear, whether it's an oversize tee or a pair of loose trousers, add something form-fitting such as leggings, a vest, a shrunken denim jacket or a waist cinching belt to balance the look. This is crucial to looking downtown cool a la Kate, Fearne and Mary-Kate.

Scotland's New Face

And the future face of Scottish fashion is… Christina Chalk!

 

Christina took to the catwalk on Sunday night in front of Scotland's fashion elite fashion  in a bid to win 2009's Scotland's New Face crown. Looking effortlessly beautiful in a black body-con dress and edgy dove grey leather jacket, she won the judges over not only for her striking beauty and superb sashay, but also her sunny nature and remarkable professionalism.

Beaming from ear to ear, Christina chirped: "I haven't done a thing like this before and it means the world to me to win. In life I want to be good at everything I do. The best thing was getting my hair and makeup done and choosing the outfit." Luckily, part of her prize includes a year's worth of free hair cuts from Toni & Guy as well as £1000 shopping spree at Warehouse. Oh to be in her shoes…

Saddle up ladies, it's National Bike Week!

Thanks to our Warehouse Cares Cycle to Work scheme, the majority of Warehouse HQ are already avid cyclistas with Senior Press Officer, Sophie Harris, cutting a daily dash on her baby blue Pashley (pictured).

However, we're all for spreading the bicycle bug, so to inspire you, we headed out onto the streets of London with Norwegian photographer and cycle fanatic, Sveinung Skaalnes, to snap the cream of the city's bicycle style. A bicycle is, without a doubt, the hottest accessory of summer (Agyness, Lily Cole, Chloe Sevigny all cycle and that's reason enough for us) and boy are there some cute outfits to set your wheels alight with!

Florals might be a year on year summer favourite, but this time around there's more to them than first meets the eye: colours have a toxic tinge and petals are pixelated.

Out and about, Cleo and Zuki, stylists from hip new magazine, Anglomania, have given techno florals the sporty street treatment via high top trainers, leggings, brassy gold jewellery, 80's sunnies and the ever-cool boyfriend jacket.

Love this gal! Whether it's a flowing Grecian gown or in this instance, a thigh-grazing couture-rock number, Rosie always gets it right. Here, she pulls it off thanks to the fact she has kept accessories minimal in light of a heavily embellished dress and chosen some fierce toe-out ankle boots over spindly heels - by far the cooler and younger choice.

Eastenders actress turned Bionic woman, Michelle Ryan, caught our attention in her floor-sweeping fuchsia dress. Not only did she nail one of summer's hottest colour trends, but she successfully avoided the trap of wearing too much makeup - hot colour looks best with a barely-there face.

Katy Perry was as lush as a maraschino cherry in her turquoise petal prom and pop art lips clutch. She might not be everyone's cherry chapstick (yes, Beth Ditto we are talking about you), but you have to admit she's in a league of her own when it comes to perfectly polished kitsch.

'Jeggings': don't miss the memo!

So, it's time to fess up: our usually on-it blog editor - and 100% devotee of Grazia magazine who coined the term - somehow missed the memo on 'jeggings'.

Last week when two super cool pairs in indigo blue and '80s acid wash finally hit store, she was on the phone to IT quicker than you could say denim leggings, complaining of a typo in their title! Turning the same colour as her new neon galaxy dress, she turned to colleagues and in a fashion fury said:

"What's all this about 'jeggings'? Am I the only one who didn't know about this item that's set to 'define summer' and which is already in the fashionista glossary?"

Cue heads down and frantic concealment of spray-on denim legs. Don't get left behind:
